Let’s go green for the New Year

2012
There are a lot of people who celebrate New Year’s Day. But what’s the point? Aside from the fact that it’s a moment of universal celebration, New Year’s Day is also a moment of change. And what we need today is a change towards a healthier, more meaningful life. So let’s make lifestyle changes that can affect our earth – the place we live.

Need inspiration for the approaching New Year? Check out 10 tips below to make a green New Year:

1. Don’t use plastic. Only use a reusable bag for your shopping and groceries.
2. Turn off your computer. When your computer isn’t in use, especially at night, turn it off or put it in sleep mode.
3. Back to nature. Clean your house by using natural products such as lemon drops and white vinegar.
4. Take care of your vehicle. Tune-up your engine and replace the air filter routinely. Don’t forget to inflate your tires as necessary.
5. Glocalization. Food that has traveled thousands of miles is not fresh and tasty. So just buy local food from your own area.
6. Coffee is good. Scrub your hands with a mix of hand soap and used coffee grounds. The soap will certainly make your hands clean and the grounds will remove your dead skin.
7. Composting. Turn your lawn and food wastes into compost by using composter, and then use the compost for planting.
8. No drip. Check and fix your faucet, since a leaky faucet can waste water in great amount.
9. Cost effective. Reducing your energy consumption will effectively pare down the electric bill.
10. Slowing down. Your highway gas consumption can be reduced by about 15% if you slow down from 75 to 65mph.
